Calibrating and resurfacing surface plates can take years to begin to master. Each piece of granite is different and different types of granite have different properties, there is grey (many types), pink, white and different quarry locations have different properties also. If you over a hundred plates/comparator stand bases and have the requirements to do them frequently it may be cost effective, but if not I would not recommend it. Check out GGG-P-463 for your surface plate requirements before you do anything.
