I am a software process Project Manager in an IT organization using the CMMI(we're rated at Level 2 and are moving slowly towards Level 3) and would like to earn my Six Sigma Black Belt by implementing a project in our organization. The organization is very receptive to process and Sr. Mgmt would support me based on past success with the CMMI and offering the possibility of demonstrable savings/gains.
Has anybody had success in using SS in an IT organization? If so, what projects did you attack with Six Sigma?
I earned my greenbelt from ASQ about a year ago and wish to continue moving forward. I am just having a very difficult time finding that point of entry or framing out a Black Belt project.
Thanks in advance.

New standard effective July 15, 2003.
Old standard ISO 13485:1996 will expire July 15, 2006
You have until July 15, 2006 to make transition to the new standard. On that date the the old standard will expire.

This depends greatly upon your customer base and the status of any regulatory bodies within the host country of the customer(s). In Japan the edict is March 2005. In Europe the GHTF guidance is only a recommendation regarding transition as soon as possible based on the ability to meet the MDD/QSR level of your system and the emphasis of the new risk management standard (ISO 14971) in design and product realization planning. iso.org also has a guidance timeline.
