› Six Sigma

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers produces a series of educational videotapes each year called Manufacturing Insights that are commercially available through the Society. One subject this year will be Six Sigma. We are looking for 3 case studies to be part of our program.

The purpose of this videotape is to present an overview of Six Sigma: what it is, why it is important, and what benefits can be derived from it. We hope this letter will interest some of you in participating in this video, and in turn, contribute to the continuing educational efforts of the Society, a not-for-profit organization.

The videotaping will require approximately four to six hours inside your facility by 2 SME production personnel and gear. Our approach is to 'eavesdrop' on our subject, eliminating any interference with normal operations. However, we will wish to interview one or two of your subject-matter-experts, which will require a conference room or office and no more than half an hour of their time.

We would refrain from videotaping any proprietary processes designated. We will submit our final script and all raw footage to you for approval prior to post-production. We will also give on-screen credit to your organization at the end of the video for your assistance in creating the program.

Available for purchase through the SME, the core audience for all Manufacturing Insights programs is manufacturing professionals, engineers and students at all organizational levels.

Release of "Six Sigma" is planned for mid '2001, so your prompt attention to our request will be greatly appreciated. Once completed, a promotional copy of the program will be sent to you in appreciation of your assistance. Referrals would be appreciated as well. Thank you, please contact Ted Sidelko, at Ph.248.380.3540 or FAX.248.380.3564 or Saraboo@ameritech.net

At present, the Americas have a registration scheme for AS9000 that has primarily involved US aerospace companies and their suppliers, with only a few establishing registration requirements and deadlines. Aerospace companies in the European Union and the rest of the world are in the process of establishing a "registration scheme" for EN9100, the European equivalent to AS9100.

What is expected is that the EN9100 registration scheme will be established in the early part of 2001 and will probably receive greater consideration from the European and other aerospace primes after AS9100/EN9100 is revised in the first half of 2001 to align with ISO 9001:2000. In the Americas, the AS9000 registration scheme will be updated to AS9100 and then gain greater attention after the ISO 9001:2000 alignment is completed. It is not yet certain how many aerospace primes and their top suppliers will be establshing registration requirements and deadlines. Look for customer notifications and other reports.
