I am trying to get a book that not only gets me through the DMAIC step by step showing tools and laying out the activities to be done at each phase, but that also give me the depth needed to overcome some obstacles when collecting, trying to analyze, and trying to improve my process.
Just as a background, I work in a company that manufactures microcircuits for the telecomunications industry as well as for the aerospace industry. This being said, the conclusion is that I have a little of both worlds: the job shop environment with order to print jobs, the high mix product, and "enjoy" the batch production in the other end of my production lines.
The books I have checked until now are as follow:
1. The Six Sigma Handbook: The Complete Guide for Greenbelts, Blackbelts, and Managers at All Levels, Revised and Expanded Edition.
Thomas Pyzdek. 848 pgs. Has good information & guidance on the DMAIC deployment
2. Implementing Six Sigma: Smarter Solutions Using Statistical Methods, Second Edition.
Forrest W. Breyfogle III
1187 pgs. Very detailed and technical. Has lots of examples
3. The Six Sigma Performance Handbook (Six Sigma Operational Methods) by Praveen Gupta
4. The Lean Six Sigma Pocket Toolbook: A Quick Reference Guide to 100 Tools for Improving Quality and Speed by Michael L. George, et al.
5. The Six Sigma Project Planner : A Step-by-Step Guide to Leading a Six Sigma Project Through DMAIC by Thomas Pyzdek
6. Six Sigma Business Scorecard : Creating a Comprehensive Corporate Performance Measurement System by Praveen Gupta, A. William Wiggenhorn
From these I was thinking in getting numbers one and two, but if anyone has any other feedback I am all ears.
Thank you,
Fernando

My name is Forrest Breyfogle. I have recently agreed to moderate the Six Sigma Forum. Because of this my response is not very timely. Hope this information still helps.
Which ASQ exam(s) one takes depends upon where they want to demonstrate basic skills that they have. Because of your background and apparent interest it seems like CQA would be a good start. My thoughts are you might then want to consider a CQM exam. Think that a CQE might be another consideration before a Certified BB, since the BB certification requires demonstrated project experience.
Hope this helps.
