› Resistance to implementation of QFD from R & D

We trained our R & D Engineers and Managers in Quality Function Deployment methodology and applications through a reputed trainer.

We have 3 Six sigma Black belts in our Quality Group and willing to work with R & D.
Yet, there is always resistance from our R & D to try QFD for New Product development.

R & D’s reply is "Our customers want products developed in very short duration. QFD approach will delay our project and we will lose our business opportunity. We don't have time for these experiments"

How are the organizations with similar time constraints handle QFD approach?

While there is no master ranking of Six Sigma training providers out there, there is one quick acid test...ask a prospective trainer what their sigma is. If they are not measuring their training using Six Sigma methods then they are not Six Sigma fanatics and probably shouldn’t be teaching your people.

There is no formal listing of e-learning providers, however the system with the greatest number of users, including Microsoft, GE, Florida Power & Light etc, is "Q-Skills".

I am also unaware of any e-Learning solutions ranking system. Probably the best option is to talk with customers of the firms involved. Be careful what goals you set for your initiatives though. E-learning is a powerful way to communicate basic skills and class pre-requisites as part of a "blended" learning solution to broader audiences. It also enables champions to reach wider swaths of the workforce and to market the intitiative very cost effectively.

But, as Forrest so aptly points out, organizations that think throwing 100 hours of content on a server will make good Green Belts are often disappointed with the outcome.

Six Sigma Moderator:
I am exploring the possibility of bring Six Sigma training to the company I work for. The President has asked me to identify the various training facilities and what their "ranking"/"feedback" is. I saw a message you posted on 7/8/02 that says this information doesn't really exist. Is this still true? If so, what is the best way to evaluate these training facilities especially since there are so many?

Secondly, I still have not been able to ascertain if we should provide Black Belt, Green Belt or Yellow Belt Training? We are a small, entrepreneurial company (about 40 employees, $10M in revenue). Thoughts?

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

Hello,

The correct-source question is always difficult for any product or service, and it has a lot to do with specific requirements, company size, number of locations and etc.

One resource for research information is available by contacting one of the Six Sigma professional associations, like the International Society of Six Sigma Professionals (ISSSP):
Tel: 480-368-7083
Web: www.ISSSP.com

If you provide ISSSP with your location and requirements, they may be able to suggest a few Six Sigma practitioners in your area.

E. Reis,

I am not aware of any list of accredited organizations with some kind of ranking or feedback for online green belt training.

I think that online courses can be OK for the training of tools and methodologies for some courses. However, from my experience that it would be very tough to get the same level of understanding about the wise application of Six Sigma that one would get within a traditional classroom. It seems to me that conveying the wise application of Six Sigma to real projects is difficult to communicate remotely.
