Our nonconformances on the shop floor generally fall into two groups. System or procedure problems or people problems. When you have a worker who "simply missed" a quality check or a stated requirement we find that these are hard to apply a permanent corrective action. Training the employee does not seem to be appropriate because he/she is already aware of the responsibilities of their job. To write them up and have a record in their file does not seem to address the root cause. In general we try to correct the circumstance or system which allowed the employee to make that error but in some cases that is not possible or appropriate. Does anyone know how these can be addiquately addressed so that an error of this cause does not happen again?
