Common Sense. You what do your customers demand? What level of nonconformance or COPQ do you experience? Where are the weakness areas of your QMS? How do you want to control them.
It may be that you only need to implement a few hard procedures or WI's.
The bottome line is, if your system allows mistakes....they will come.
Please note that QMS is requirement of standard ISO 9001:2000 and Six Sigma is continual improvement tools which is also a requirement of QMS .
Apart from QMS other standard are Environment Management System(ISO 14001)which is for the improvement of Environment and prevention of pollution and OHSAS 18001 is for the improvement of Safety and Health at work place
INITIAL POSTING: We are a small business and would like to implement a QMS least intense then ISO/Six Sigma. What else is available?
RESPONSE: I like to work initially in a deployment at the enterprise level with Satellite-level business performance metrics and 30,000-foot-level operational metrics. We then work down from there to determine where improvement efforts should focus.
Most of these improvement efforts do not need to be a large Six Sigma project, managed by a dedicated Black Belt. When we use this approach, the same techniques apply in all size organizations.
Hope this helps. If you would like to discuss further, please contact me directly.
