If you have a commercially available Gage Calibration software package it's
easy.
1). Simply assign a pseudo Gage I.D. number to each of the areas,
departments, systems, whatever you intend to audit on a continuing basis.
2). Establish your various standards as calibration checkpoints for each
area audited.
3). Record the results of your audits (question numbers, items checked,
Corrective Action Requests, etc.) as calibration results as each area is
audited.
4). Each month, your calibration system should offer you a print-out of
areas due for auditing in the coming month.
I have used "Gage-Track" and/or "Pro Gage" to maintain my Internal Audits
like this for several years now. My Registrar loves it.

ORIGINAL POSTING: Information security has become a ninth dimension of quality (ref. David
Garvin's 8 Dimensions) that every organization needs to address. Until
very recently, it has been in the sole custody of technocrats in IT
organizations, but technology alone is no answer when a friendly shared
password or helpful answer to a telephone request can expose a company's
network and all of its sensitive customer information. Does this sound
like a good application of six sigma methodology (DFSS, etc.) or is the
project-by-project approach too limiting when an organization really
needs to institutionalize more of a kaizen habitual/continual framework? Do you know of anyone applying six sigma to information security?
RESPONSE: Most definitely Six Sigma could be used to address information security! Both DFSS and DMAIC roadmaps can be applicable, depending upon the specific project need.
Often people ask for example implementations for various situations; however, in reality companies are often reluctant to share their detailed applications for this type of projects. Because of this, I think that a lot of time need not spent on this type of investigation. I think that focus should be given to evaluating various how-to-execute strategies to determine which strategy works best for you.
Let me know if you would like to discuss further.
