› Gender Bias

A recent article in the May 2005 Quality Digest, page 34, "2005 Salary Survey," makes the point that women should count on making less than men. It then presents examples that quantify "less" as being from 12% to 33%.

I know that within the higher education profession, women professors are underpaid and blocked from promotion tracks when compared to men, and in general characterized as being "working moms" implying they ought to be with the children at home. I recall hearing that when firms are downsizing, they let women go first as the men are the family breadwinners.

And despite this inflammatory background, I find this gender discussion forum 'silent.'
