I need to accurately measure high quantities of slots with a widths of .005" to .050" in 7" diameter pipe. I feel have to use a imaging system. I am looking for something which is portable if possible.
HI, we are a reseller of computer software and hardware. We don't manufacturer anything. Some of the items we sell come through distribution. Others must come directly from the manufacturer and are specified by the customer. We do evaluate our distributors, but for the sole source suppliers, we put a policy statement in our manual that states that certain vendors are selected by the customer and are sole source and we have no choice but to purchase from them. Our registrar is happy with that.
Whether it is a manufacturer or a distributor, whether it is Customer Selected manufacturer or Organization selection; Selection, evaluation and re-evaluation has to be based on the regulation, contractual requirement, criticality of the service, business cost effectiveness. If none of the criteria is met, Supplier selection, evaluation and re evaluation merely to satisfy ISO9001 requirement is not value added.
If your Customer selected the manufacturer, fine, you can collect the selection and initial evaluation record from the customer, and start performing the periodic re-evaluations if it meets the above criteria.
Distributors may not be responsible for the Quality of the product, but they still are responsible for delivery, cost & service.
Yes, I would conclude, unless you have a valid justification not to do, you should consider the manufacturers and distributors in your selection, evaluation and re-evaluation. You may custom define the criteria based on the criticality.

GR
You may not exclude 7.4.1. As long as you issue a PO, you must abide by the requirements of 7.4.1. One way around this however, is to have your customer provide you with the required components mandated on their prints.
You are selecting the distributor, thus, you are selecting the supplier. No, you cannot exclude purchasing. As long as you are sending a purchase order, and paying the invoice you have the responsibility of purchasing along with all of its related accountabilities.
