› Gage Chart

Is there a standard chart, procedure or matrix available that would help inform shop floor personnel about the correct gage to use based on tolerance and application? My supervisors has seen such a chart but I have had zero success in locating anything.

Thanks

Good to hear that your company has got on to the right track in utilising the benefits of Six Sigma. However I am worried about the timelines and the directions which your company is focussing upon. I have been through this experience, where as one goes through the training of Champion and then wait for the Black belt traning for long and by the time all the invloved members complete traning their will be no proper focus, or for that matter the guiding force itself.

My suggestion is that your companies approach itself should be changed with respect to the training. Let all in the respective roles (Champions, Black belts, Green belts and the team members) complete the training with in a limited time frame. Later, the Champion along with the BB should work together in identifying the projects for the future course of action

QUESTION: Our company just has the in-house Champion training by a service provider. However, the Black Belt training will only be conducted 2 months later. Meanwhile, what should the champions do after they have selected the projects for the black belts?

RESPONSE: After reading your inquiry I was immediately concern that there could be other issues with your rollout. My first concern is the project selection process. Often organizations select projects that are not properly scoped or not aligned with business needs. Also, do your projects focus on the bottlenecks of your company enterprise as a whole? Projects should be aligned with strategic goals and/or key operational metrics (i.e., they should create customers and cash). There are other issues that also need to be addressed at the startup of Six Sigma, such as project reporting, financial metrics, etc.; i.e., the Six Sigma implementation process needs to be developed during this time frame.

Hope this helps. Contact me if you wish to discuss further.
