› Determining capability of measuring equipment

I am currently implementing an ISO 9001:2000 system at a manufacturer that uses mainly jigs, calipers, tape measures, and rulers to determine acceptability of products. I am wondering how we can determine whether these techniques are CAPABLE of verifying that the product meets requirements? We have specifications that are +/- 1/16" or larger.

In addition, how do auditors under the 2000 standard regard the use of jigs. We use jigs where the specification is a fit is the issue NOT meeting an actual measurement (ex. the product could be 1" too wide but if all the parts fit, the customer is satisfied).

Any ideas regarding capability and the use of jigs is greatly appreciated.
