We are a small manufacturing shop (less than 40 people) who use micrometers, calipers, pin gages and thread gages (ring and plug) to perform our routine part checks.
My predecessor had been working on a single standard, encompassing several diameter, length and hole sizes to perform in-house calibration. His effort continued up to and including having this standard calibrated. It is now out of calibration (which was in excess of $200.00) so my question is, Shall I work with this standard or would it be more prudent (with regard to current ISO requirements) to purchase blocks and ring gages (which are directly traceable to NIST standards) to perform in-house calibration?
thank you
